Drinking Water Assessments

The aim of the site audit is to conduct testing of non-filtered drinking water at representative outlets and compare results to current Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG) and therefore drinking water that is acceptable according to the requirements of the relevant state-based work, health and safety legislation.

Scope of works

The testing locations provide representative screening of potential contamination to the drinking water of the occupied areas within the site.

To thoroughly test drinking water for all contaminants is not practical and so a standard drinking water quality assessment focuses on various common parameters as an indicator to microbiological, physical or chemical contamination. This includes the following.

  • Common heavy metals associated with holding tank and water supply piping networks throughout the building.
  • The pH chemistry of the drinking water to determine if this is encouraging contaminants to leach into the drinking water.
  • Bacteria associated with drinking water that can flourish if residual chlorine levels are insufficient at point of use or from bacteria proliferation from cross-contamination or poorly maintained plumbing fixtures.

The water samples are sent to a National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accredited laboratory and analysed for microbiological, physical and chemical properties.
